Stop Overcomplicating God's Will — Life.Church
One of the biggest mistakes that so many of us make when trying to discern the will of God is the big mistake we make is we overcomplicate God's will and underestimate [God's goodness].
While we're chasing the perfect answer for tomorrow, we're often missing what God wants us to do [today].
We know God's goodness that he guides us, he directs us, he counsels us, his loving hand is [upon] us.
- What decision are you overcomplicating right now? How might trusting God's goodness—His guidance, His timing, His love—change the way you approach it today?
- Reflect on a time when you were so focused on figuring out tomorrow that you missed what God wanted you to do today. What small step is He inviting you to take right now?
God's will is more about a [who] than it is to do.
Before God guides your steps, he actually wants to shape your [character].
Knowing God's will starts with knowing God's [heart].
- Instead of asking, 'God, what do you want me to DO?' try asking, 'God, who do you want me to BECOME?' What does His answer look like for you today?
- How does focusing on becoming more like Jesus—your character, heart, and how you treat others—change the pressure you feel about making the 'perfect' decision?
So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for [today].
God wants you to seek him and know him [today].
The best way to find God's will for your future is to live [faithfully] for Jesus today.
The more you get to know him through his word, the more his word renews your mind, the more you can hear the voice of the [spirit].
- Jesus says not to worry about tomorrow because today has enough trouble of its own. What anxiety about the future is stealing your peace today—and how can you release it to God?
- What does it look like practically for you to 'live faithfully for Jesus today'? Name one small, tangible way you can seek Him, serve Him, or reflect His character right now.
Do not be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be [transformed] by the renewing of your mind.
The Greek word for holy is the word hagios, and hagios means to be set apart, different, sacred, [dedicated] to God.
Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is, his good, pleasing and [perfect] will.
Before you worry about his will for the future, worry about his moral will for how you live [today].
- What area of your life is God calling you to be 'set apart'—different from the world around you? How can you live out that holiness in a practical way this week?
- Romans 12:2 promises that transformation comes through the renewing of your mind. What thoughts, media, or habits do you need to surrender so God's Word can renew you?
Whatever you do, do it for the [glory] of God.
The only time you can serve Jesus for certain is [today], it's
If you want to do big things in the future, do [small] things for the glory of God today.
Sometimes the [small] things are the big things.
- Take inventory of your everyday roles—student, employee, parent, friend, neighbor. How can you do what you're already doing 'for the glory of God' today?
- What 'small thing' has God put in front of you that you've been tempted to overlook or rush past? How might faithfulness in that small thing be the very 'big thing' God is calling you to?
